How to store your medicine

The recommended storage conditions for medicine vary according to the type of medication - from room temperature, to refrigeration, to freezing; therefore it's essential to check with your pharmacist about any specific storage requirements and temperatures.

Most medication needs storage that is at room temperature (15 to 25 degrees Celsius), in a cool, dry place. Your best options include drawers, a closet, a storage box, and a shelf.  Avoid the bathroom medicine cabinet, due to the heat and moisture from your shower, bath, and sink. It’s also advisable to avoid the kitchen, since the heat from the stove, can also damage your medicine. Medication that requires cool or cold storage means between 8 to 15 degrees; refrigeration means between 2 to 8 degrees, and freezing temperature means -10 to -25 degrees. Check with your pharmacist for the precise temperature range for your medication.

Always remember to store your medication out of sight and reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
